“Democracy and Capitalism: Synergistic or Incompatible?” taught our very own LWVSC member Maria Montalvo. She will discuss how democracy and capitalism coexist in many variations around the world, each continuously reshaped by the conditions and the people forming them. Increasingly, people have deep concerns about both. A Global Attitudes Survey conducted by the Pew Research Center in the spring of 2018 among 30,133 people in 27 countries found that 51% were dissatisfied with how democracy is working. Further, Millennials and GenZs are increasingly disinterested in capitalism. In the United States only half of them view it positively. This class studies why both systems are stronger together, but only if both are maintained and protected.This online class will be taught from 1-3 PM PT on Fridays from February 5 to February 19. Since this is an online course, there are no geographic restrictions so invite your friends from across the country to join you.
