About the Children's Services Committee...
The Children’s Services Committee meets on the first Friday of the month (September to June), from 10 a.m. to noon at Verdant Health in Lynwood. Contact Phyllis Busch if you’d like to join us.
The committee has advocated for the safety of minors by concentrating its work on two major areas. Our first emphasis was on the sex trafficking of minors. We have continued that work as we also began research on a study of child and family homelessness in Snohomish County.
In 2017-18, we researched questions on homelessness, and are writing up what we have found. In 2018-19, we plan to present our study to LWV-SC Units for adoption. We then hope to update the League’s position on the issue. Armed with a stronger position, we will lobby for legislation in Olympia.
- On the last Monday of each month we prepare a meal that we bring to Cocoon House in Everett, which serves trafficked and homeless youth.
- We purchased The Long Night, a documentary about child sex trafficking in America. We can loan the film to your group and provide a speaker.
- Future plan is to hold a general meeting on intervention programs for children who have had adverse experiences at a young age.
