Redistricting reform - Join the effort!
Published on 4/9/2022
The 2021 redistricting cycle was deeply disappointing. While the maps are set for the 2022 elections, one pending lawsuit could change things in future years. Redistricting Justice Washington plans to join this suit. An earlier lawsuit based on the Open Public Meetings Act violations has been settled and the Commission has changed their administrative rules slightly to prompt the next commission not to make the same egregious mistakes.
The efforts for a better process for the people of Washington are now focused on making changes before 2031. We need to use the momentum gained from this cycle to document, brainstorm and find coalition partners to reform the process and the structure.
Join Alison McCaffree, LWVWA Redistricting Issues Chair, for a deep dive into each of six proposed areas of redistricting reform. She will lead a meeting every other Tuesday at 5:00pm- 6:30pm, starting Tuesday 4/12. Find details on our event calendar, or the LWVWA calendar.
