Edmonds Pioneer and Suffrage Champion Honored
Check out the historical interpretive sign at the corner of Sunset and Caspers in Edmonds. The plaque honors Edmonds publisher, land developer and suffragist Missouri Hanna. League member Rita Ireland wrote successful grants for creation of the plaque, authored the text, worked with the artists, and coordinated with city officials to place it adjacent to Hanna Park. Did You Know that Washington Women Had the Right to Vote in 1910?
On August 26, 2020, women’s right to vote in the United States will reach a 100-year milestone. But in 1910 Washington State became the fifth state to give women the vote, so we were ten years ahead of the 19th Amendment. This story and other important information about voting is highlighted in Your Vote, a resource published by the Spokesman-Review collaborating with the League of Washington State.
Published annually by the League, "They Represent You" is a brochure listing your elected officials, with information on how to contact them. TRY brochures are available here, as well as at locations such as public libraries.
This is the core value of the League of Women Voters and its highest commitment. We strive to provide accurate and current information, resources, and programs for voters in Snohomish County.
The mission of the League of Women Voters is to encourage informed and active participation in government, increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influence public policy through education and advocacy.
There are many ways to experience the important work of the League. We invite you to attend one of our monthly unit meetings. Check out the committees working on our current positions and topics. You can follow us on Facebook, read one of our newsletters or Action Alerts, listen to our Magazine on the Air, or view our Calendar for upcoming events. We welcome your interest and involvement!
