Thank you for reading through our Voter newsletter, and for being involved with the League! We saw almost 50 members at Fire Up! - our annual kickoff meeting. It was nice to meet many of you–including five members attending for the first time–to connect and get energized for our year ahead.
Our goal was to get members comfortable with tabling, which is another word for voter outreach. I think we were successful! We had several members sign up to table at a concert we are sponsoring, none of whom had tabled before. We also had great feedback from the members who participated in National Voter Registration Day with Goodwill and Common Power. The extra boost of confidence they got from the meeting was really appreciated. Plus, maybe you met other members with whom you’d like to buddy up with to table in the future. All in all it was a great morning. You can see photos
here.
We also heard what you’re Fired Up about. This information will be shared with the Board. Here are some examples of what we heard from you. (Thank you to Suly Altamirano for taking notes.)
- Environmental preservation.
- Access to childcare.
- Civics education in high schools (and outreach to families struggling to find information).
- The LWV national initiative to abolish the electoral college.
- Getting information about national initiatives at membership meetings to create awareness and drive change.
- Youth voter engagement (suggestion to create a youth education committee to help engage younger voters and League members).
- Leadership within the League.
We hope you feel encouraged to take initiative. If you have an idea, stand up and provide leadership or attend a committee meeting for work already being planned. Our League runs on passionate, dedicated, amazing volunteers!
I am looking forward to the year ahead and the work we all do to empower and educate voters.
