The meeting in September focused on having attendees share grants that our local Leagues have. There was a state board report. A representative from the Skagit League brought up the new dues process with LWVUS and reminded other members that they should really have members from their local League attend meetings about this change if we haven’t already done so (which we have).
We had a round-robin discussion about what we expect from our monthly MELD gatherings. LWVSC said that they would like to hear from other members about how they grow their membership. Attendees were then asked to share league successes, and we mentioned our partnering with the state League in the live debate that is scheduled, our tabling events, and the successful candidate forums.
They mentioned there will not be a Lobby Week this year, but that the lobby team is planning a webinar in October to show how to make connections with local legislators and how to establish a relationship with them. They spoke about having action workshops and what areas the LWVWA will prioritize for advocacy. This team will be led by Cynthia Stewart and
Marty Gibbins.
The state League has set up a Local News and Democracy Committee to support the delivery of local news. Newcomers are welcome, and if you would like to join, reach out to
Dee Anne Finken or call 360-910-0668.
Everyone was encouraged to help promote
Vote WA.gov.
Lastly, the LWVWA is asking voters to vote NO on Initiatives 2109, 2117, and 2124. They have a
rationale page outlining why. If anyone is interested, I would be happy to share that.
