Pizza & Politics / Local & State Civics 101
October 9, 6:00-7:30 P.M.
(Everett Main Library, 2702 Hoyt Ave, Everett, WA 98201)
This is a 90-minute workshop, sponsored by the Office of the Washington Secretary of State Civic Engagement Program (hosted by Michael Bowman), on the structure of local and state government, policy proposals, debates, and voting, as well as strategies for participation in the local, county, and state legislative process. In addition to free pizza, attendees will receive a copy of “Washington State Legislature’s Guide to Lawmaking,” “Guide to Effective Participation,” and the “Legislative Tracker.” Submit a civics question to Michael when you sign-up here! Civic Storytelling Booth
October 10, 3:00 -5:00 P.M.
(Everett Library, Evergreen Branch, 9512 Evergreen Way, Everett, WA 98204)
The Office of the Secretary of State’s Civic Engagement Program (hosted by Michael Bowman) invites you to visit our Civic Storytelling Booth at the Evergreen Branch! After a brief presentation, staff will help you record a short (10-15 minute) story based on a civic prompt, such as, “I am politically powerful when . . . .” After you finish your recording, you’ll receive a copy, and the recording will be archived. With your consent, it may be shared in civic education materials. Sign up here.
