Politics Stressing You Out?

This is a period of time when what was once known and predictable in our society can suddenly change or nearly disappear. If you are feeling stressed, you are not alone. Here are a few tips that can help you better handle the pressure that many of us are feeling.
It’s important to live our values, no matter the stress in our daily lives. This helps us maintain focus on what we find important.
It helps to seek community with people we trust to share our feelings and concerns. Find those who will listen without judgement.
Focus on what we can control. Most of what is happening in national and global politics is out of our immediate personal control, but there are many activities in our local area in which we can take part, make a difference, and contribute to our mutual well-being. Here are some ideas from the League of Women Voters of Snohomish County:
ü Volunteer – at an event, for an organization, with a group you support
ü Join a group you care about
ü Help - at the food bank, senior center, local library
ü Read to a child
ü Be a mentor
ü Donate blood
ü Support local businesses
ü Read your local paper - support journalists and journalism
ü Meet your neighbors - reach out & check-in with them
ü Say THANK YOU to your mayor, city council member, representative, school board member, firefighter, police officer, health worker, educator
ü Run for elected office
ü Donate to a non-profit you care about
ü Speak up and out at any council, commission or board meeting, or write a letter - make your voice heard
ü VOTE!
