Redistricting update – Training!

Karen Crowley | Published on 11/1/2023

Step Up! and join our movement to reform the way Washington State does redistricting. Mark your calendar and plan to attend a training session put together by the LWVWA Redistricting Reform Task Force. (Yes – our League is a member of this team!) You will receive critical information about how you can make a difference in reforming redistricting. Local Area Action Teams are starting in every corner of our state. Training topics will include local team development, redistricting reform talking points, community outreach strategies, the latest on the new legislative maps, and much more.

Step Up! To Redistricting
Date: Saturday, November 18, 2023
Time: 10:00 a.m. – noon
Who’s invited: Anyone who wants to see Washington State put people over party.

The 2021 Washington State Redistricting Commission failed to create maps that represent the people. In August 2023, a federal court declared the 15th Legislative District in Yakima Valley to be discriminatory and the maps must be redrawn. The outreach process was muted because partisan interests prevailed behind closed doors. The people of Washington State deserve better.

We deserve district lines that best represent the people of the state and give us the best chance to elect the representatives of our choice. We want a People First Redistricting Commission. Join us on Saturday, November 18th 10 a.m. - noon for this don’t-miss training to get started.

For questions, contact Alison McCaffree, LWVWA Redistricting Issue Chair.
