All Aboard for an Amtrak Adventure!

Wendy Wyatt | Published on 11/1/2023

The Transportation Committee is inviting you and your spouse or plus-one  to join us on Saturday, November 11, for an all-day field trip. We will explore public transportation while we travel to Bellingham via Amtrak and explore both Fairhaven and Bellingham while using the city’s bus system. This is your chance to experience life without a car by using public transportation. We have nine hours to make a trip to downtown Bellingham via the city bus to visit the city’s Farmers’ Market, stores, and museums downtown and then back to Fairhaven to explore the shops and have dinner before we head back home that evening. You can board the train in Edmonds (8:16 a.m.), Everett (8:41 a.m.), or Stanwood (9:11 a.m.)

Itinerary (Everything is optional, except the train trip.

Catch Whatcom Transit Authority bus Route 1 ($1)to the Bellingham Farmers Market at 1100 Railroad Avenue. – The Farmers Market is only open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

*Or shop in downtown Bellingham if you wish.

If shopping isn’t your thing, there are museums downtown you might want to explore:
  • SPARK Museum of Electrical Invention.
  • Mindport Exhibits.
  • Whatcom Museum Lightcatcher Building.

  • Take the Route 1 bus back to Fairhaven whenever you’d like to ($1). Visit the shops in Fairhaven Village, (Think a three-story bookstore, ice cream shops, gift shops, dinner at one of the restaurants.) You could also visit the Whatcom Art Market  , the Atwood Gallery, or the Peter James Photography Gallery.

Board Amtrak for home at 7:44 p.m.
    Arrival Times: Mount Vernon – 8:13 p.m. Stanwood – 8:27 p.m. Everett – 9:07 p.m. Edmonds – 9:30 p.m.

If you decide to join us, and we hope you do, please register on the LWVSC event calendar. You are responsible for buying your own train ticket online. We recommend that you do so as soon as you know that you’ll be joining us. All non-LWVSC spouses and plus ones are welcome to join us too. If you have any questions, feel free to e-mail Steve Trautwein.
