Redistricting Reform

The League effort to reform the Washington State redistricting process is being led by the LWVWA Redistricting Reform Task Force, chaired by Alison McCaffree. The Snohomish League has created a Local Area Team (LAT) to support the taskforce.
Currently, the task force is focused on developing model language for a constitutional amendment. You may see this referred to as the “north star.” The goal is to have the legislation introduced in the 2027 legislative session. Between now and then, the taskforce and LATs will be working to get sponsors and support teams. The earliest effort will be to reach out to organizations such as AAUW to educate them on the legislation and gain support.
You may be aware of HB 4209, which has been introduced by senate and house leadership. The goal of this bill is to allow midcycle redistricting, which is currently prohibited by the Washington State constitution. Both Karen Crowley and Alison McCaffree testified about the bill at a recent hearing.
