Hello All,
I'm trying to cover a lot of territory here, as I haven’t reported since the end of November.
We finished off 2025 with an award from the City of Everett for the great work of the Candidate Forum team. Yay team! We have a lot of expertise and experience and a moderator who made their municipal candidate forums possible. In December, a number of LWV members attended the hearing challenging the Stilly timber sale at the Snohomish County courthouse.
January started off with a bang - the tabling/outreach efforts this month have been robust, with successful voter registration tabling events at schools in Everett, Snohomish, Lynnwood, Mountlake Terrace, Edmonds and Mill Creek. Impressive and tiring. A reminder: students can preregister at age 16. This state is working hard to make voting an easy habit for new young voters to form. We’ve got some new important information in our library display, which moved from Mountlake Terrace to Mukilteo for the month of February.
In addition to being present at Rev. Martin Luther King events in Edmonds and Everett, we shared a table with LWV Seattle King County at the Activists Assembly at Shorewood High School in Shoreline on January 25th. That was an astounding success–with the parking lot and side streets packed with cars–and a great opportunity to learn what other organizations are doing.
This has been a sad few weeks with the deaths in Minneapolis and the increasing fear that civil and human rights of noncitizens and citizens alike are being ignored as the immigration policies of the current administration are being implemented.
January closed with our Lobby week, which was a statewide effort to focus on the League’s top legislative priorities. Stay informed by reading
LWVWA Legislative Action Newsletter, which shows up in your inbox on Sunday, and add your support.
Looking ahead, we hold our
annual birthday luncheon and awarding of our Democracy in Action awards in February. We had excellent nominations this year. So many are doing such good work. We hope you will attend the event on Feb. 21st in Lynnwood. Check the
Events page to purchase tickets.
