This month we enter the election season - with state and local candidates declaring their candidacy the first full week of May.
Statewide the majority of the Washington State Supreme Court are up for election: five seats out of the nine, with three incumbents who have been previously elected and two in appointed positions who are fairly unknown by the public. Be on the watch for opportunities to see what the candidates have to say. Law schools and bar associations are often the hosts of judicial candidate forums.
There will also be county officials and legislators on the ballot, as well as initiatives that the LWVWA has taken a stance against. With high registration rates due to the motor voter law and the auditor’s and LWVSC outreach, 89.2% of eligible adults are registered to vote in Snohomish County. But being registered is only a beginning. LWVSC is focusing on a message of Get Out the Vote - GOTV and Vote Every Time to make sure that voters are represented.
LWVSC is also closely tracking the Charter Review Commission (CRC). We are attempting to have eyes on their meetings - which will take place every Wednesday in May - with meetings in Everett, Arlington and Mountlake Terrace and all available remotely. So please consider joining the Zoom session for each. The link for these Zoom meetings is found
here.
The CRC provides an excellent opportunity to serve as an observer or review Observer Corp reports.
To learn more as we approach the election, see examples of Observer Corp reports, which can be found on our League website under Member resources > Documents > Member Documents > Observer Corps > 2026 Observer Corps Reports. Be sure to log in first!
Let’s spread information and encourage every voter to be an informed and consistent voter.
Hope to see you at the Annual meeting on May 16!
