The redistricting task force Local Area Team (LAT) for Snohomish LWV met on April 29, 2026. The agenda was both an update and discussion of the current national environment.
The Jefferson Committee, a subcommittee of the redistricting task force, is currently writing the North Star Model Legislation for an amendment to the Washington State Constitution to create a citizens’ commission charged with redistricting. The recommendations are based on extensive research of states with citizens’ commissions and research done by democracy advocacy groups. Additionally, the task force sent a questionnaire to democracy groups and league members in Washington, soliciting their thoughts on redistricting issues. The report on the results is available

The second agenda item for the LAT was a review of the
PowerPoint presentation, which will serve as a starting point for presentations to local Leagues and community groups.
The final agenda item was a discussion of the impact of the national redistricting efforts in several states. On the plus side, redistricting has become an important issue for voters. We discussed how the attitudes of Washington voters will impact the work of the Task Force. Details on this discussion will be in a future
Voter.
