Hello all you wonderful LWVSC members. First and foremost, as chair of the Community Outreach Committee (COCO), I want to thank all the members, old and new, who are showing up for outreach in Snohomish County.  Your willingness to work on learning new skills to participate in our efforts to inform voters of what is important in the upcoming elections has been nothing short of spectacular. Please keep up the great work.

In May, Carolyn Miller, Jeanne Crevier, and I put together a “work/play” party to assemble bracelets for upcoming tabling events. Carolyn provided a fun meal before we settled into playing. She organized a party that was so clearly laid out, we were like “YES!!! We will get 1000 of these done in no time.” But the universe being what it is, one of the pieces of the puzzle decided not to cooperate. But of course. ARRGGH…

These women, being the talented and committed people they are, regrouped, organized the next party, and took the pieces home to work at our leisure after negotiating the replacement of the offending, recalcitrant piece. We all had an enjoyable time though. We got to know a new member, Leslie Methe, and welcomed two community members who wanted to play even though they are not members of the League (yet?).  Thanks to Debbie Seaney and Rose Smith, who joined us for this event. We have another party scheduled for June 2. Let me know if you are interested in playing. Thanks for the pic, Carol McMahon.

Make sure you continue to check the LWVSC calendar for volunteer opportunities. The events are changing daily. Please develop a habit of checking in periodically.
  • June 5: Mountlake Terrace first ever Pride event. Take a look and select the volunteer button!
  • June 17: Everett Station District Street Fair. We are still looking for a table captain for this event. Please take a look and contact Nadine Shanti if you are interested.
  • June 20: NAACP Juneteenth Celebration. This one sounds like fun. Contact Nadine.
  • July 4: Parade in Everett. We are looking to get a full contingent of walkers in LWV gear. Make sure you put a hold in your calendar, and this event will go up in the June calendar. All you need to do is to be able to spell V-O-T-E, walk the length of the parade, and represent LWV for this community event in celebration of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence!
  • July 25: SCBHC (Snohomish County Black Heritage Committee) Nubian Jam is one of Everett's longest running summer Community Celebrations! It's free and open to the public! Music, fashion, dancing, food . . . a real celebration. Forest Park in Everett. This is an all-day affair, y’all, with several two-hour sessions to fill. COCO will need a strong group of volunteers to mount this community outreach. More information to come. Check out our event calendar and volunteer.
  • August 4: National-Night-Out in Mountlake Terrace.  More info to come in July.
  • August 15: Sounds of Africa. Use this link to whet your appetite and put a hold in your calendar. Check back in July for this volunteer opportunity.
As always, COCO thanks you for your commitment to outreach and we look forward to working with you at these events. See you soon.
