Reasonable Forest Management

Kate Lunceford | Published on 6/1/2026

The Ed Campaign: LWVSC received an additional $2,000 from the Keta Foundation, also known as the Mountaineers! The Keta Foundation works with local schools and community members to offer environmental educational experiences to encourage good stewardship of the earth. We are deeply grateful for the opportunity to further its mission: Protecting and connecting with the habitat, mountains, water, and natural history of the Salish Sea region.

That brings our grant fund to $4,500 for education ads. The funds are used to buy ads on Facebook and Instagram. The ads consist of two short videos explaining the value of structurally complex mature (legacy) forests. These first videos are targeted to the urban environmental community for education on why structurally complex forests on state forest lands should be preserved in Snohomish County. They have been seen over 22,000 times since April and have sent folks to our Reasonable Forest Management web page over 1,500 times.

The next three videos are scheduled for late June. They will be targeted toward rural communities. If you see them on your social media feed, please like and share them! One of the videos can be seen on LWVSC’s YouTube channel, but the best tool to spread the educational power is through Meta.

In the coming months we plan to switch to advocacy with new funding and ask the community to take action on forest protection.

The films are made possible by the Center for Responsible Forestry. Please consider supporting them.

Summer Fun: Please consider volunteering for our table at the Evergreen State Fair. We’ll be there all day on Aug. 29 to promote forest protection. Go online or let Kate know. We need to meet face to face with folks who receive timber revenue.

Legacy Forest Defense Coalition will help us determine the annual budget for some of our junior taxing districts and how much the districts received in recent years. It’s important to have honest conversations about the balance we need in providing essential services and living in reciprocity with our environment.

Join us: We welcome folks interested in working on strategy to protect legacy forests in Snohomish County. Join us for an hour at the link on the calendar on June 2 and July 7 at 10:00 A.M. (There’s no meeting in August.) Check the calendar.
