Doing More Together

Lisa Utter | Published on 6/1/2026

No one can do it all. The same goes for organizations.

The National League of Women Voters and our Washington State League emphasize the importance of building relationships, especially with the American Association of University Women (AAUW) and the YWCA. Both organizations have signed on to support Unite & Rise, the League’s nationwide initiative to mobilize 8.5 million people in defense of democracy and voter participation.

At our local level, we recently connected with these two organizations.

Our League president, Lisa Utter, was a panelist at an AAUW forum on May 8 at Edmonds College. The panel discussion included representatives from various organizations, and the conversation focused on what each group is doing and how we could work together. Our tabling material was popular with attendees afterward.

On May 13, Lisa and President-Elect Brenda Mann Harrison attended the YWCA Seattle | King | Snohomish annual event, Community in Bloom! We had conversations with many YWCA staff members who were eager to discuss how we could work together to share voter education with their clients.

In addition, Past President Cathy Liu Scott joined organizations from across the state on April 25 for the Faith Action Network's "Weaving our Strengths" conference. Cathy and Lisa followed up by meeting with the organization's Partnership Coordinator, Elizabeth Dickinson, to work together with their member churches (12 in Snohomish County). Several of those churches have joined the 100% Voting Faith Communities Campaign.

Working together with other groups is nothing new for our League. Many of our committees have teamed up with other organizations for years, like our Candidate Forum Committee. Our Community Outreach Committee (COCO), led by Nadine Shanti, is also forming relationships that will be vital to reach out to BIPOC communities prior to election season.
