Why This Matters Now
League members have an important opportunity to share a clear, nonpartisan message with state legislators: voters should choose their representatives—not the other way around. Redistricting reform helps protect fair representation, keep communities intact, and strengthen public trust in our democracy.
Where We Are
The LWVWA Redistricting Reform Task Force is leading this effort by building relationships and identifying support among state legislators. Our immediate focus is to find lawmakers who are open to learning more, considering reform, and ultimately becoming champions for a fair, transparent, and accountable map-drawing process.
Long- and Short-Term Goals
- Long-term goal: The Jefferson Committee, a Task Force subcommittee, is drafting a proposed constitutional amendment to advance lasting redistricting reform.
- Short-term goal: During the upcoming legislative session, we will seek improvements to the current redistricting process that increase accountability, transparency, and meaningful public participation.
- This is a democracy issue, not a party issue: Fair redistricting rules benefit voters across the political spectrum.
Join the Movement for Fair Redistricting
League members can help build momentum by contacting their state legislators; explaining why redistricting reform matters; and encouraging lawmakers to support a fair, transparent, and accountable process for drawing district maps.
The Task Force will provide training, talking points, and support for members who want to take part in this effort. Contact
