Please watch for an action alert in October. We will ask you to send your comments to the county council about the urban tree canopy. It will be before October 20th. As part of Snohomish County’s 2024 Comprehensive Plan Update, Futurewise and the League of Women Voters took the lead to work on new policies for the county’s comprehensive plan that would protect and restore trees in our urban growth areas with a no net loss of 38 percent. The policies can be found in the
Natural Environment Element section of the comprehensive plan.
Unfortunately, the county executive has not proposed any money in the budget for implementation other than what has already been allocated. On October 20th, the county council will be having their public hearing on the budget. We will need your help to send in an e-mail to let them know that we need the Urban Tree Canopy policies fully implemented in this budget because they need to begin implementation in 2027, nothing will get cheaper in two years, and the county will still need to budget for full implementation. Protecting and restoring our trees in our urban growth areas is very important to the residents of Snohomish County.
