Mission of the Committee
The committee advocates for the welfare of children. Several years ago, when we studied the problems of sex trafficked minors in Snohomish County, we realized that one common denominator of many of the young victims of sex trafficking was homelessness. We expanded our scope by looking at the incidence of children, youth and families experiencing homelessness, with all the short-term and long-term problems involved. We completed a study of how children, youth and their families become homeless, what help they need as a result, and what local agencies can provide help.
Goals:
- Inform our members and the public of the wide-spread incidence of homeless children and youth in Snohomish County and the consequences to children and to society
- Advocate for support services that help alleviate homelessness in our County
- Advocate for governmental solutions to homelessness
Our Work
Although not currently active, interested members continue to follow homelessness issues in the county.
In the recent past we have:
Provided a monthly meal to the youth at the U-Turn Drop-in Center of Cocoon House in Everett, which provides services to homeless youth.
Produced a radio program in collaboration with Housing Hope to showcase our study and share with the public the face of homelessness in our county today. Watch a video of the program on our YouTube Channel, or link to a podcast of the program here.
Purchased The Long Night, a documentary about child sex trafficking in America. We can loan the DVD to groups and provide speakers. Contact us to arrange this.
