Promote Tree Planting in Everett Neighborhoods

LWVSC assisted the Delta Neighborhood Association plant trees on private property in 2022. We received a grant from the Henry M Jackson Foundation to buy trees. The City of Everett, the Snohomish Conservation District, and the League assisted the Delta Neighborhood Association recruit homeowners and plant 45 trees on private property in the neighborhood.

These trees will have an on-going effect on air, water and disparities in health, livability, and land values in this area. According to American Forests' Tree Equity Score, much of the Delta Neighborhood shows 9% tree canopy cover, 43% people of color, 64% people in poverty, and temperature of 88 degrees. The presence of new urban trees will improve the quality of life for this neighborhood that suffers from decades of industrial pollution.

We approached the project by asking the neighborhood if we could assist them. Partnerships established with the Delta Neighborhood, The City of Everett, and the Snohomish Conservation District during this project benefit our efforts. These have made pathways for the League to work on extending this goal to other neighborhoods.
